"Looking for the answer," November 25, 2008 Westley (The South) The Killers' last CD was a bit of a letdown sales-wise, even though it yielded one spectacular single, "When You Were Young," which became their second U.S. Top 20 hit. Their new CD is previewed by "Human," the killer lead single (sorry for the pun!). The song has already landed at #32 on the U.S. Top 100 and could become one of their bigger hits; it's already a top 5 hit in the U.K. Regardless of its success, "Human" is a really great song. Originally cut with Stuart Price for their "Sawdust" CD (which mostly included b-sides, covers, and remixes), "Human" begins with a propulsive guitar and drum beat before crescendoing into the incredibly catchy chorus - Are we human/ Or are we dancer? The song's big drum beats continue throughout the song paired with swirling synths, giving the song a definite New Order feel. Brandon Flowers, however, has claimed that he wanted the song to sound like a cross between Johnny Cash and Pet Shop Boys. I guess I can see that here somewhat. The lyrics, incidentally, have quickly become one of the all-time most misheard, with people debating whether Flowers sings "dancer" or "denser." The Killer's official website lists the lyrics as "human," which was apparently inspired by a disparaging remark about American culture by author Hunter S. Thompson - "We're raising a generation of dancers." Whatever the intended message, "Human" is probably the best single released by the Killers since their breakthrough hit, "Mr. Brightside."
I love the Killers November 13, 2008 Elizabeth (Kodiak, AK) this song is definitely different than anything I've heard from the Killers before. They aren't affraid to experiment with their sound and that's why this band is so good.
Or are we DENSER!!! October 27, 2008 E. Orlova He is not saying dancer trust me on this one. The song is GREAT, I love it's upbeat melody comparing to the sad lyrics, Brandon is a great singer and the Killers still got it!
Who cares if your a dancer right now just make a good song October 25, 2008 mayno (syracuse, ny usa) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Human is like an 80's pop song, a crummy 80's pop song. If the killers didnt make it, nobody would like this song.

This song is crap. No thought went into the making of this song. This is what happens when musicians are left alone in the studio without adult supervision. Stupid song, inane lyrics.
