good listening! December 13, 2008 dissipatedfog (Buenos Aires, Argentina) It took me about 10 seconds to like this song and I liked it all the way through. It's great when a free song turns out to be such a find! gotta go, off to buy the whole album!
Khan is the King! December 5, 2008 Rick Garcia 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is one of those things that you stumble across, and then realize that it rocks! "The Supreme Genius of King Khan and the Shrines" is a low tech, high energy affair that has roots in 60's garage bands, and 80's revivalists. Sam the Sham, the Shondells, Count Five, James Brown and the Fleshtones all come to mind. This particular freebie isn't even the strongest song on the album. "Land of the Freak," "Welfare Bread," and "Took My Lady to Dinner" are all excellent as well. The music is loud, fast and tight, with a distorted guitar, jagged solos and a horn section punctuating short, shouted tunes. Check it out!
