When he passed away in the summer of 2009, Michael Jackson was in the midst of rehearsals for his final tour, an ambitious 50-date engagement. In editing 120 hours of rehearsal footage together, Jackson producer Kenny Ortega proves that it would've been an event for the ages. Michael performs material that spans his career, from a Motown medley to multi-platinum hits from Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Though he hadn't toured in 10 years, it becomes instantly apparent, despite rumors to the contrary, that Jackson was still in full possession of that unmistakable voice--high-pitched whoops and all--and that he still had the gravity-defying moves of a man half his age. Jackson and Ortega also collaborated on some real showstoppers, such as a graveyard-set "Thriller"; an imposing "They Don't Care About Us," in which several dancers appear to morph into thousands; and a film noir sequence in which the singer slides in and out of Gilda and other black-and-white classics, singing "Smooth Criminal" all the while. Not everything works, like the Jackson 5 numbers, in which he flubs a few lyrics, claiming that his earpiece isn't working properly, but as he readily acknowledges, "That's what rehearsal is for." It's a tragedy that he didn't get the chance to share this dazzling show with the world, but Ortega allows fans to feel as if it actually happened--at least onscreen. --Kathleen C. Wasn't really a huge Michael Jackson fan, but do enjoy his music. I feel this gives a good look at the elements of Michael Jackson we didn't see much of. He was a hardworking guy and the talent he had, although natural, was greatly improved by this work ethic. Also does a good job of making you see him as a normal person, with problems like the rest of us. Brought in a human element better than the other things I've seen on him. It was interesting for several reasons; those are just a couple. If you're a Michael Jackson fan, I feel you'll really like his. Even if you're like me though, just a fan of a few of the songs, I feel you'll find it worth a look. Fantastic Michael   March 19, 2010 Sunshine Sally What an amazing performance! MJ This is IT   March 18, 2010 Barbara Siomos (PA) This DVD is so special and I am thrilled I bought it because it made me laugh and cry. M J as he is known on this tour was/is in top form. I feel so sorry for the artists that rehearsed so long and hard then did not get to open the show. BUT these artists will remember MJ and rehearsals for the rest of their lives, not just for the time spent with him but now they have this special DVD. Everyone (onstage with him) loved him it is obvious IF you are thinking of buying this and cannot decide Do It! Michael I had forgotten you before seeing this dvd, but your light NEVER dimmed... YOU are the best and no one can top you as far as talent, being a wonderful caring human being and loving the Planet :-)> barbara Not what it was in the theatre   March 18, 2010 A savvy consumer (TX) This movie was excellent at the theatre in IMAX but loses it's magic on the small screen. Sound quality is horrible - it goes up and down in waves throughout the movie. I would not recommend purchasing... MICHAEL SHOWS US THAT HE IS 100% TALENT!!   March 17, 2010 Heather E. Mcglothlin (Richlands,VA USA) This film has a perfect title, THIS IS IT!! This is a must have for any die-hard MJ fan!! I absolutely adored this film. The 3-D effects of THRILLER you cannot beat. It will make you want to jump and shout and laugh and cry. It really shows that he was a perfectionist when it came to his work. It also showed what a wonderful humanitarian he was. All I have to say is that May God Bless his children, family, and those that were close to him. If you do not like Michael, I guarantee it that you will end up loving him after watching this!! You cannot "BEAT IT" because it is not that "BAD" because it is quite a "THRILLER" to have in your DVD collection to watch over and over. Thanks to the family that let us see him one last time in this. I am so happy to have it in my collection!!
