Product Description Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 08/01/2008
Amazon.com Equal parts Roswell and The O.C., Kyle XY starts off as a sci-fi mystery, veers off into a teenage soap opera and ends its 10-episode first season with a compelling cliffhanger. The series, which debuted in 2006 on the ABC Family channel, begins with a teenager wandering in the woods just outside of Seattle. When the authorities find him, he is naked, unable to communicate, and devoid of a belly button. He is taken to a juvenile detention center where a psychologist bonds with him and takes him home to live with her wary husband and children. (Never mind that most women wouldn't bring possibly dangerous young men home with them.) As played by Matt Dallas, Kyle (as she names him) is a gentle soul who wouldn't hurt a fly. He's also an idiot savant when it comes to learning. Within a few hours, he memorizes the encyclopedia and learns how to speak perfect English. He's just as quick to learn athletic skills. He's not as fast when it comes time to pick up on social nuances, and he has no concept of private time. As the fish-out-of-water character, Kyle is charming in his naivete. Though Dallas is a tad too hunky to pass for a 16-year-old boy, he gives the character a warm heart. Where the series fails is in its attempt to be everything to everyone. There's a subplot with a mysterious man who may know more about Kyle than he should that falls flat. There are also teen angst storylines involving the family's daughter that would've fit in better in an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 than here. While uneven, Kyle XY shows promise with a cliffhanger ending that will be realized in the second season. --Jae-Ha Kim

Parents Beware! Lacks the morality you might expect. July 17, 2008 Dave L (California) 2 out of 13 found this review helpful
Brought to you by Disney. Disney has come a long way...they have taken a perfectly good concept, good actors and actresses and have sunk miserably in relation to morality. Since no one else addresses this issue I will: True to life, you can't have strong morals without a foundation to build upon...Church and a belief in a higher power are brought into the story line under cloak and dagger, a fake parent lies about the bond with a higher power, while another left it behind long ago. So who's the good guy? Disney portrays it as the one that left it long ago...so with that said is there any wonder why his 13 yr old son is hooked on pornography and masturbation and is excepted behavior (no reaction whatsoever by he or mom to his stash of porno mag.) and it's projected as cool when he introduces Kyle to porno and masturbation! Family morals? Of course not, there's no real family morality! Same with daughter, sister Laura, having sex is just coming of age! No big deal, after all, Dad (thinking back), after 10 shots of tequila on his honeymoon then tells his wife that he was having sex as early as 13. That's a loving picture for a honeymoon memory, Hey mom's how pleased would you have been had your husband admitted that to you on your honeymoon? Are you laughing? It's supposed to be funny? So in the Teager house - sex of any kind is an ok and permissible. It's treated as a "coming of age experience" Please Disney writers refrain from your liberal and immoral perspective of family values and stick with the story line. Not one of those scenes was even necessary to carry the story for even a moment. Is it really that hard to write a 45 min script without trashing it with this unnecessary garbage? As for the excuse of portraying reality, dudes, its sci-fi, you've already left reality!

I just bought this and started watching...this is now 3:00AM and just switched of the DVD I just could not stop watching. I watched this season from the Pilot to the end one after the other. Thank you for the reviews if it was not for you guys I would never have taken the change to buy this and would have missed out on an excellent show. I can't wait for Season 2... If you are still wondering, don't make a mistake buy this it is absolutely worth it.
